Michael is represented in Scottsdale by Joan Cawley Gallery located at 7135 E. Main Street and is the featured gallery artist for this event. On their website they comment on his work and on this painting in particular:
"Michael's work depicts the heritage of the American cattleman and rancher. Every image he paints is a precise moment in time -- you can feel the energy and motion. Michael chooses vibrant colors and compositions with emotional impact. In addition to his numerous awards, in 2008, the prestigious Booth Museum of Western Art, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute, purchased Michael Swearingin's "Cowgirl And The Vaquero" for their permanent collection in Cartersville, Georgia."

Collecting the West: Rodeo, Ranching, Roughstock
Showcasing more than 100 works of art and historical objects, this first annual exhibition is organized around a theme. Collecting the West will feature a different theme each year with highlights from private and public collections throughout the Southwest.
This year, artifacts and artwork relating to ranching, rodeo, or the animals that are part of these western traditions are woven together to tell rich stories. Also explored are questions such as: why do we collect, how do we collect, and how do the stories associated with art and objects provide a context for viewers.
